As has been frequently rumored of late in the press, the Calzones are indeed attempting to trade outfielder Scott Moss.
It's not that we don't like Scott Moss. In fact, quite the opposite is true. We think he's a fantastic ballplayer who deserves an opportunity to play. But our outfield is set for the next several seasons with Miyata, Griffin, and Madrigal. Beyond that, we have several outfielders in the minor leagues who will be ready in the next year or two. We just can't see sitting Moss and letting his talent go to waste. He has nothing left to prove at the minor league level, and he deserves a chance to play somewhere.
We've discussed the situation with Scott. He's quite happy here in Laredo, but he's also eager to play. We've agreed that a trade is in his best interests, if and when we can find a deal that is also beneficial to the Calzones.
I've had discussions with several teams, but as of yet we're not really close on a deal with any particular team. It's quite possible we won't find a deal for awhile. It's still early in the season and teams are still analyzing their needs.
If and when we do reach a deal, you'll hear about it here first.
